Can a Gravitational Lens Magnify Gravity? A Possible Solar System Test
نویسنده
چکیده
Can a gravitational lens magnify gravity? Leading theories of gravity likely indicate “no”, but the possibility might be testable by using our Sun as a gravitational lens and carefully aligning a satellite past the minimum transparent focal distance of about 25 AU. Here the magnitude of a maximal effect is estimated and found potentially observable. Subject headings: gravitation – gravitational lensing – solar system: general – Sun: general

The gravity of the situation
In this thesis we examine several ways in which we can explore the early universe through gravitationalwaves and the fundamental nature of gravity through cosmology and observations of dynamics within the solar system. Both of these topics have taken center stage, as we are living at a unique time which promises to bring fundamental insights into the nature of gravity with the discovery of new ...
متن کاملHow Fundamental is the Curvature of Spacetime? A Solar System Test
Are some paths and interactions immune to the gravitational curvature of spacetime? The paths of virtual particles might be – the effect is unexplored experimentally. Were a quantum theory of gravity moderated by virtual gravitons that are themselves susceptible to gravitational curvature, to obey the weak equivalence principle, and to follow null geodesics, then gravitational acceleration migh...
متن کاملReducing Retrieval Time in Automated Storage and Retrieval System with a Gravitational Conveyor Based on Multi-Agent Systems
The main objective of this study is to reduce the retrieval time of a list of products by choosing the best combination of storage and retrieval rules at any time. This is why we start by implementing some storage rules in an Automated Storage/Retrieval System (Automated Storage and Retrieval System: AS/RS) fitted with a gravity conveyor while some of these rules are dedicated to storage and ot...
متن کاملA Solar System Test of Mach’s Principle with Gravimetric Data
We present a new test for a possible Mach-Sciama dependence of the Gravitational constant G. According to Ernst Mach (1838-1916), the gravitational interaction depends on the distribution of masses in the universe. A corresponding hypothesis of Sciama (1953) on the gravitational constant, c/G = ∑ mi/ri, can be tested since the elliptic earth orbit should then cause minute annual variations in G...

A covariant scalar-tensor-vector gravity theory is developed which allows the gravitational constant G, a vector field coupling ω and the vector field mass μ to vary with space and time. The equations of motion for a test particle lead to a modified gravitational acceleration law that can fit galaxy rotation curves without non-baryonic dark matter. The theory is consistent with solar system obs...
